Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have scolded Ahmed Gulak, a former political adviser to former president, Goodluck Jonathan over his comments on the ongoing arms deal probe.
Gulak, who was known for defending Jonathan whenever he came under “attack” from critics during his administration, was reported to have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the arms purchase probe of the purchase of arms to Jonathan.
In a statement in Abuja on Thursday, December 17, the PDP governors expressed regret that a man aspiring to lead the party cannot offer anything tangible other than to encourage the apparent determination of the APC-led regime to “decimate” the PDP, Premium Times reports.
The PDP governors asked Gulak “to shut up if he has nothing better to say.”
The statement read: “We hope that the statement credited to Mr. Gulak is untrue, that he was misquoted. But if it is actually what he said, then it is regrettable.
“This is a man that pretended that he was ready to die if Jonathan did not contest the 2015 presidential election having nothing positive to contribute on the attack by the APC on the former president and PDP.
“One would have expected that Gulak would call for an inclusive, unbiased investigation of the purported arms deal rather than this mercenary statement by him.”
On Tuesday, Gulak obtained a favourable ruling from a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in his suit asking the court to sack the acting national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, and declare him the national chairman of the party.
The PDP governors forum noted that Gulak’s court case against the party’s national executive was the handiwork of “fifth columnist out to destroy the PDP.”
“Come to think of it, Gulak is yet to shake off the bitterness of his sack by President Jonathan in 2014 given his overreaching himself just as he is doing now,” the statement read.
Gulak, a political adviser to Jonathan was fired long before the 2015 election.
The PDP explained that he was fired because he was a “loose cannon” during his time in office, adding that he was at liberty to defect to the APC rather stay and cause division within the PDP.
Gulak had dragged the PDP and its acting national chairman, Uche Secondus to court over his continued stay as party chairman. He said the continued stay of Secondus as chairman was “a gross violation of the party’s constitution.”
Three days ago, Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf of the High Court of the FCT sacked the Secondus as the acting chairman of the PDP.
