Obsanjo Meets With Atiku, Tinubu

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo

The National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and former vice president and a presidential aspirant of the party, Atiku Abubakar, reportedly had a meeting with former president Olusegun Obasanjo at the weekend in his Abeokuta-home, Ogun State.

According to Leadership, a senior aide to the former president on Saturday while reacting to the meeting said Obasanjo will continue to welcome politicians who want to see him irrespective of their political affiliations because he is an elder statesman.

He said the former President is a father to many politicians, adding that the two chieftains of the APC came inrespect of next year’s general elections.

“They have been coming and they would keep on coming to Baba and he would not stop them from coming. Governor Kwankwaso has come, Buhari has come, Tinubu has been coming, Atiku too, so also, Tambuwal. They would keep on coming and Baba would continue to welcome them. He has said it times without number that he remains in PDP but as an elder statesman, Baba remains the father to all of them irrespective of their political affiliations,” he said.

The aide further revealed politicians are coming to seek the former President’s support for their political ambitions in next year polls, noting that, Tinubu has been a regular caller, and that his visit on Saturday was one of them. He said Tinubu sees Obasanjo as a factor while Atiku hinted that he was in Abeokuta to meet the APC leaders with the aim of asking for their support in next year’s polls.

However, another source who did not want to be named revealed that Tinubu came to update Obasanjo on the happenings in the APC.

“Tinubu has assured Baba that he would be coming to give him updates on the preparation for next year election by his party. That was why he came. You are aware of the new entrant to the party, the speaker and his interest in the presidential race. This was why Asiwaju came,” the source said.

The source further hinted that the visits of both Tinubu and Atiku were coincidental, and went ahead to debunk the speculation that Obasanjo had cautioned Tinubu over the ambition of his former vice.

“Remember, I told you the story was not true. Baba Obasanjo did not say anything near that when Tinubu came, but I suspect it was those who feel threatened by Atiku that flew the kite. With his visit, Atiku must have sent signals to those who wanted to use the feuds between him and President while in office to think otherwise” he said.

Meanwhile, Obasanjo, who has not publicly disassociate himself from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party but has been fraternising with members of the opposition party was recent begged by the PDP’s national chairman and other chieftains to forgive them for whatever wrong they might have done to him.
