Muazu Babangida Aliyu, who is the governor of the Niger
State, has fired Hon Musa Ibeto, his deputy governor. After this, Niger
North stakeholders met to endorse Hon Umar Nasko, Aliyu’s chief of
staff, as the sole candidate.
A day ago, the stakeholders from Niger North also known as the Zone C met at the governor’s residence and after the meeting, Muazu Babangida Aliyu announced the endorsement to the media.
Before Nasko’s endorsement, rumours said that Aliyu would not support his deputy due to trust issues. It has been speculated that after Aliyu leaves office in 2015 he will lose his influence.
Last Wednesday, some elders of the party told Aliyu that he had not
made up his mind on his preferred aspirant before later announcing that
it was a consensus for Umar Nasko.
The governor was also said to have visited his deputy in his residence at Tunga low-cost for the first time in 7 years after he assumed office, allegedly persuaded him to drop his ambition for Nasko who has been his preferred choice amongst those seeking the ticket.
