Renewed Ebola Fear: 150 Nigerian Teachers Flee From Sierra Leone, Liberia

There are new fears over the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) as over 150 stranded Nigerian teachers in Sierra Leone, Cote D’Ivoire and Liberia have reportedly started escaping into Nigeria.

According to report, the teachers who were to the Sierra Leone, Cote D’Ivoire, Liberia, and other countries in West Africa under the Nigerian Technical Aids Corps Programme, which is coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs escaped following the refusal of the Federal Government to evacuate them because of the Ebola scourge.

A highly-placed source said those who escaped from Ebola infected towns and villages, did not go for any Ebola testing in any hospital before fleeing.

He explained that since no airline plies the Freetown-Lagos routes, the teachers resorted to self-help by escaping through Ghana, Tunisia, and Morocco to return to Nigeria.
