The
new Spider-Man revealed that Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jnr gave him
advice on his own audition for the superhero character.
Tom
Holland – who is taking over the role from Andrew Garfield – is due to
make his first appearance on screen in the famous Spidey suit in Captain
America: Civil War alongside Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Robert
Downey Jr.
The 19-year-old British relative-unknown told SuperHeroHype that
the stellar Marvel cast made it easy for him to fit in, despite them
having already filmed three or four previous movies together.
‘I guess they’re such easy people’, he explained, ‘They’re lovely people and Robert did my first screen test and he was so welcoming. He took me aside and gave me a little advice about the audition’.
He didn’t reveal what the advice was – but it clearly worked as Tom scored the role.
The
young actor is also starring Ron Howard’s In the Heart Of The Sea –
scheduled for release on December 11, and revealed that he connected
easily with the former Happy Days star.
‘Like with Ron, I just felt at ease with him, because he’s just a down to earth easy-going guy, and I can’t wait to get to work with them more. I’m really excited to get to work and be a part of that universe,’ he told them.
The
actor – who made his debut as the lead role in Billy Elliot The Musical
in London when he was 12-years-old – was named as the new Peter Parker
earlier this year.
Although
Tom – who starred in tsunami drama The Impossible – will be revealed as
Spider-Man for the first time in May’s Captain America release – he
isn’t seen in the trailer which was released this week.
The
movie picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers
leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard
humanity, but didn’t give a glimpse of the hotly anticipated new cast
member.
