Again! Boko Haram Attacks Community Near Chibok, Destroy Houses

Boko Haram insurgents reportedly invaded a community near Chibok town, Borno state, injuring scores, destroying over 60 houses and looting food supplies

According to Daily Sun reports, the insurgents attacked the Takulashi village at about 11am on Sunday, December 6.

The news of the attack only got into Maiduguri, the state capital, on Monday evening due to the remoteness of the area.

Some residents of Takulashi community who fled to Chibok said the insurgents were armed and fired into houses.

Speaking to newsmen, a resident, Bitrus Ali said: “They were not many, but were very armed, shooting and threatening to kill everybody, but we had fled before they came. They set fire on our houses, even throwing bombs into houses. They burnt down more than 60 houses.”

Another resident who gave his name as David said they came on bicycles and on foot, shooting indiscriminately and setting fire to homes. “They burnt more than 100 homes in the village. Only five houses were spared the inferno,” he added.

Speaking on the attack, Ayuba Chibok, a community leader in Chibok, told AFP that the insurgents loaded food supplies onto four vehicles they took from the village and burnt the ones they were unable to take with them.

He said: “We will have to wait till everybody is back to know if there were any fatalities in the attack.

“We are making contacts with the residents who fled to locations where there is a phone network. “We thought the worst had happened after Boko Haram rustled over 200 cattle in the village on Friday.”

Two days earlier the terrorists were said to have stolen more than 200 cattle from the same location.

Recall that on April 14, 2014, the Boko Haram insurgents had kidnapped over 200 schoolgirls from Chibok community. Fifty-seven girls escaped soon afterwards and till date, the remaining girls are yet to be found and rescued. In the same month, 12 people were killed when gunmen attacked Takulashi.

Yesterday, President Muhammadu Buhari said there is a possibility that defeating the Boko Haram terrorist may not be feasible in December.

However, report has it that the military is making real progress in ridding Sambisa of the insurgents. Military sources confirmed that Nigeria Air Force jets have begun a massive bombardment of Sambisa forest.
