Brazil and Barcelona attacker Neymar Jnr has made history by becoming the first player from his club to win a La Liga player of the month award.
The Samba skipper was honored for his efforts in November which saw him net five goal and assist two more in four games.
Neymar scored two goals against Villareal (including a beautiful turn and volley) on November 8, scored and assisted one in the 4 – 0 El Clasico win over Real Madrid on November 21.
He also scored two and assisted one in a 4 – 0 rout of Real Sociedad.
The awards were created in 2013 and astonishingly no Barcelona player has ever claimed a monthly award.
The Catalan club wrote on their official website: “Astonishingly, not only is this the first time Neymar has won the Spanish League’s player of the month award, it is the first time any Barcelona player has taken it home at all.”
Real Madrid have had three winners – Cristiano Ronaldo (twice) and Karim Benzema – while 2013-14 champions Atletico Madrid have been represented six times.
Luis Enrique’s side lead La Liga by two points after 14 games, with Neymar top of the goal charts with 14 – one ahead of Barca teammate Luis Suarez.
