The award which recognises artists for their dedication to improving the state of the world lauded Kidjo for her “tireless humanitarian efforts”.
The 54 year-old artist was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2002 and she focused on girls’ education. Her passionate advocacy for children and young people has seen her partner with the UN body and the Batonga Foundation, which she co-founded, to speak out on matters affecting vulnerable children.
