Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi
A Yemeni government spokesman says the cabinet has submitted its resignation to embattled President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi amid a standoff with Shiite rebels who control the capital.
Rageh Badi said that the government headed by Khaled Bahah handed its resignation to Mr. Hadi on Thursday, without providing further details.
Mr. Bahah’s government was formed in November as part of a United Nations-brokered peace deal after the Houthis overran the capital in September.
Mr. Bahah posted his resignation on his official Facebook page, saying he had held office in “very complicated circumstances.” He says he resigned to “avoid being dragged into an abyss of unconstructive policies based on no law.”
“We don’t want to be a party to what is happening or will happen,” he added.
