A pro-Jonathan support group by the name, ‘Believe Nigeria Trust Goodluck’, has concluded plans to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).
According to Leadership, the group has a strong grassroots support across the country, especially in the North.
The group’s move is reportedly as a result of the division among the various groups under the umbrella of Goodluck Support Group, which is supposed to serve as the coordinating body of all groups representing the President’s political interest.
The group which was formally launched by Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko in September 2014, with a view to working for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, has a robust online presence, and has been engaging youths and other stakeholders in the Northeast – Yobe, Borno and Adamawa – as well as youths in the Northwest, on the need to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The group has been engaging the Nigerian populace through social media channels; and interacting with the electorate in a robust online political community.
Also of note, the National Coordinator of the group, Mr Idris Usman, won the best state coordinator of the defunct Neighbour-to-Neighbour for Kaduna State which worked aggressively for President Goodluck Jonathan’s election in 2011.
Although, Governor Mimiko had promised last September to oversee the operations of the group to ensure the President’s victory in next month’s polls, nothing has been heard from the medical-doctor turned Governor.
Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the date for the forthcoming general elections.
