Mr Tagbo Emekwue, member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Thursday donated 25 sets of spanners and pliers to drivers at Umagbae Motor Park in Benin.

Emekwue, Batch 'A' corps member in Benin and member of the NYSC/Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Community Development group, said the donation was to ensure reduction of road traffic accidents in the state.

"I was inspired to donate these tools after witnessing a crash that would have been avoided if the driver had simple tools like pliers and spanners in his vehicle.

"I want to thank the NYSC and the FRSC for creating the opportunity for me to contribute to ventures that will assist in saving lives on our roads", he said.

The Edo Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Oluwasusi Familoni, said the importance of the maintenance tools in vehicles could not be over emphasised.

He said that most road traffic accidents could have been avoided if drivers had repair kits and safety tools all the times.

Familoni urged corps members in the state to emulate such gesture by initiating projects that could assist in curbing auto crashes in the state.

He thanked the donor for the initiative and urged the drivers to put the tools into good use.

The Vice Chairman, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Mr Tony Osunde, thanked the donor and assured that the drivers would put them into good use.
