The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ogun chapter, on Friday appealed to the Federal Government to intensify efforts in tackling incidences of multiple taxation.
Mr Wale Adegbite, the President of the association, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ado-Odo Local Government Area of Ogun.
He said that payment of multiple taxes had been hindering the development of the manufacturing sector.
He said that there was a need for the Federal Government to address the incidences of multiple taxes being imposed by both states and local governments.
According to him, multiple taxation on manufacturers are not in Nigeria's constitution.
"Multiple taxation is one of the major challenges that constitute impediment to development of Small and Medium Enterprises in the country,’’ he said.
Adegbite urged the Federal Government to provide the enabling environment, including granting tax holiday to manufacturers for SMEs to run successful business.
He said that governments, in developed countries, provided incentives to manufacturers so that they could grow to make profit and create jobs.
The president noted that the ability to address multiple taxes in the country would have a multiplier effect on the nation’s economy.
