Security Agencies Promise To Be Non - Partisan During Polls

                 Security agencies in Plateau on Thursday promised to be non-partisan in the February general elections.


This is contained in a communique issued in Jos after a dialogue among stakeholders including religious and community leaders, youths and security agencies organised by the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos.

Some of the security agencies that signed the communique were the State Security Service (SSS) and the Nigeria Police Force.

Others were Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Special Task Force (STF), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), among others.

According to the communique, the security agencies have resolved that they would not allow themselves to be manipulated by candidates or political parties before, during after the elections.

''We pledge our support for free, fair and credible elections where everybody's vote will count. We will be non-partisan.

''We resolve to conduct ourselves professionally before, during and after the elections, and we will not allow ourselves to be manipulated by aspirants or political parties.

''We shall through effective surveillance and monitoring do our best to guarantee the safety of law-abiding citizens, voters and electoral officers during the elections,'' it stated.

The communiqué further called on religious and community leaders, woman and youths to ensure prompt report of cases of breach of peace to security agents.
