Gen. Muhammadu Buhari
The presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has promised to tackle insecurity, poverty, unemployment, bribery and corruption, if elected in February.
Buhari made the promise during campaign in Sokoto on Thursday.
"These are the major problems bedeviling Nigeria now and the moment they are fully tackled, Nigeria will be a better place’’, he added.
Buhari, who addressed a mammoth crowd of supporters of the party in Hausa, averred that these social canker-worms were currently the bane of Nigeria's socio-economic development.
"An APC-led federal government will provide more job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths who formed between 60 to 65 per cent of the country’s population.
"The youths, whether educated or uneducated, will be provided with more jobs by the federal government under me, if elected'', he added.
Buhari further promised to revitalise agriculture, solid minerals exploration and exploitation, while solid minerals and agro-allied companies will be established.
The APC presidential flag bearer also pledged that banks will provide soft loans to small-scale entrepreneurs.
"Monies to be realised from the anti-corruption war will also be channeled to health, water and power supplies, as well as the provision of social infrastructure.
"We will also uphold the trust and confidence reposed in us by Nigerians, if elected into office.
"I appeal to Nigerians to collect the permanent voter cards and also come out en masse to cast their votes on the election days'', Buhari, added.
The National Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun, called on the electorate to use their votes and make Buhari Nigeria's next president.
"This is to enable him to bring the change Nigerians desire'', Oyegun said.
Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State said the people of the state were determined to vote Buhari and all APC candidates. "Sokoto is an APC state.’’
He rejected a recent suggestion by the National Security Adviser, retired Col. Sambo Dasuki for the postponement of the forthcoming polls.
"The people of the state and Nigerians in general are ready for the elections and they must hold as scheduled’’, Wamakko, said.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives and APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, promised to deliver the state to APC.
According to Tambuwal, "Sokoto state is solidly behind Buhari and all the APC candidates across the nation.''
