The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday assured the residents of the state of a violence-free elections in February.
The command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, made the assertion when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Nwosu said the police were prepared for the elections, adding that "the Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Aderanti, had met with Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in preparation for the elections".
"You know this election has been fixed over a period of time and the police, even before this time has started preparations.
"The Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Command, is adequately prepared for the elections.
"We are prepared to provide pro-active and adequate policing before, during and after the elections and even beyond,’’ he said.
He urged Lagosians to be calm and not get involved in any violence.
Nwosu also said that Lagosians should trust the police as the command was prepared to ensure transparent and violence-free elections.
"So, Lagosians should be relaxed that the police is prepared to ensure that this coming election will not be only free, fair and credible but also transparent and violence-free." he said.
He said the commissioner had restated that the command was working round the clock to protect lives and property and rid Lagos State of crime.
