Police Urge Kogi State Politicians To Uphold Non-violence Pledge

                    The Nigeria Police Force Kogi State command has urged politicians in the state to uphold the non-violence pledge and warned them against the use of thugs and dangerous weapons to terrorise political opponent ahead of the general elections.

Addressing political stakeholders and election contestants at the command headquarters in Lokoja on Wednesday, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Okafor, said the workshop was held to enlighten stakeholders on the ‘dos and don’ts, before, during and after elections.

Mr Okafor said the workshop was at the instance of some politicians who employed thugs to deface posters and there unwholesome and vulgar statements that were capable of heating up the polity. He also read out some of the riot act and urged the politicians to adhere to it.

A representative of the Director of operation of INEC, Rasheed Gbadamosi, commended the police command for the workshop and assured the participants of the commission’s readiness to collaborate with the security agents in the state for peaceful conduct of the election to ensure that it would be free, fair and credible.

While some of the politicians accused the police of always taking side with the party in power, others narrate some recent happening in there local government.

Both the police and the politicians have aired their minds and it is hoped that their words would be matched with actions.
