2015 Elections: The Dates Of Presidential Debates Are Released

The Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG) made a statement that the 2015 presidential debates would be hold between January 28 and February 5.

According to The P.M. News, the information was disclosed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NEDG, Sola Omole, in Abuja on January 19, 2015, Monday.

Omole announced that the Directors-General of the Presidential Campaign Organisations of the 14 participating political parties would open the floor on January 28. The Vice-Presidential debates are billed for January 29.

According to the chairman, the debates involving the presidential candidates would hold in two sessions and would climax on February 5.

Omole informed that the group had already contacted all the parties involved into the debates. All of them supported the idea.

“We believe that debates are very important components of the democratic process aimed at giving the candidates the opportunity to speak directly to Nigerians.

“We want the Nigerian community to get used to the business of debating issues and we feel that this is a very strong part of building that culture.

“We have met with all the political parties, those we couldn’t meet directly, we contacted their senior officials and they are very supportive of the initiative.”

Before the presidential debates begin, the leading political parties and their candidates are taking active part in their campaigns.

President Goodluck Jonathan and his presidential campaign team yesterday arrived in Sokoto in continuation of his nationwide rally.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, made a stop at Minna, Niger State, for its rally on January 19, 2015.
