President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said on Tuesday that 208 militants who attacked police and army forces had been killed and 955 arrested.
He did not specify the time frame for these numbers. Egyptian security forces are battling an insurgency, mainly in Sinai, that has killed hundreds of police and army personnel.
In a Police Day celebration at the Police Academy, El-Sisi said that over half of those arrested were released for lack of evidence of involvement in attacks, in line with the rule of law.
Police Day is on 25 January, the same date the 2011 revolution erupted.
